Meta Cuts 8,000 Employees: 'AI Will Replace White-Collar Jobs'

Meta formally announced on April 23 that it will lay off 10% of its workforce (approximately 8,000 employees) effective May 20, with an additional 6,000 open positions frozen. CEO Mark Zuckerberg cited AI-driven efficiency, stating that AI systems will replace many white-collar functions. The same week, Microsoft launched its first-ever voluntary buyout program in 51 years.
